The countries of Europe that ask their citizens to leave Ukraine before an imminent Russian attack

Due to tensions with Russia and the possibility of an imminent attack, several countries in Europe are asking their citizens to leave Ukraine.

On Friday, the United States warned that there is a “clear possibility” that Russia will attack Ukraine next week.

“Our impression that military action could happen any day, before the end of the Olympics, is becoming more and more resounding. It’s a very, very clear possibility.”said White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

In addition, the United States believes that if Russia decides to invade Ukraine, its offensive will likely begin with “air strikes and missile strikes” that “will kill civilians regardless of their nationality,” the White House said.

“The White House hysteria is more revealing than ever. The Anglo-Saxons want war at all costs.”said the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajárova, on her social networks as a response.

Meanwhile, these countries ask their nationals to leave Ukraine:

Italy

Italy’s Foreign Ministry has advised Italians in Ukraine to temporarily leave the country due to tensions with Russia and has withdrawn non-essential staff from its embassy in Kiev, which will remain “fully operational.”

“In connection with the current situation, as a precaution, compatriots are invited to temporarily leave Ukraine with available commercial means,” indicates the Italian ministry in a statement issued by its Crisis Unit.

Italy also recommends “delaying all non-essential travel” to Ukraine and, if you find yourself hopelessly in the country, register on an internet portal of the Ministry and download the geolocation application of the Crisis Unit.

Belgium

Belgium’s foreign ministry “strongly” advised against traveling to Ukraine and urged Belgian citizens in the country to leave “as long as possible.”

The department led by former Prime Minister Sophie Vilmès asked its nationals in Ukraine, “whose presence is not absolutely necessary”, to leave the country, and if this is not possible, I recommend registering on the “Travellers Online” website and contacting in contact with the Belgian embassy in Kiev.

“If the situation worsens, an evacuation from Ukraine cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, it is advisable to leave the country while possible.” Foreign Affairs warns, noting that communication channels could be seriously disturbed in the event of a sudden deterioration of the situation due to a possible aggression by Russia against Ukraine.

Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that Spaniards currently in Ukraine “seriously” consider the possibility of temporarily leaving the country due to the volatile security situation caused by the conflict with Russia.

The Spanish ministry recommends not traveling to Ukraine, as well as the possibility of leaving that country temporarily, “by the commercial means available, while the current circumstances persist.”

Denmark

“There is a serious situation in Ukraine as a result of Russian threats and rearmament. We fear that Russia will follow through on its threats to use military force in Ukraine.”Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod told a news conference.

The Danish Social Democratic government also discouraged travel to Ukraine and explained that its embassy in Kiev will remain open for the time being.

Norway

Norway, which for a few weeks has advised its nationals against non-essential trips to Ukraine, today also urged them to leave the country due to its unstable situation.

“Right now, people can still book plane tickets, the routes are operational and it is possible to go by car. We don’t know how long it will last, so it’s important that people get back home as quickly as possible.” said the Norwegian foreign minister, Anniken Huitfeldt, also a Social Democrat.

Netherlands

The Dutch government urged its citizens to leave Ukraine “as soon as possible” because it considered that the security situation on the country’s border with Russia “has further deteriorated”, for which it also changed the country’s color to red in the travel recommendations map.

In a brief statement, the Dutch Foreign Minister explained that “the security situation was already worrying and has deteriorated more and more in recent days” and stressed that “after consultation with the allies, the Netherlands is taking this step to ask all Dutch people to leave Ukraine.”

United Kingdom

The UK Government has urged British citizens in Ukraine to leave the country as soon as possible, while there are still “commercial” means available to do so.

The Foreign Office updated its travel advice page to warn against any travel to Ukraine and stress that Britons in the country must “leave now”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed in a virtual meeting with other world leaders that he “fears for the security of Europe in the current circumstances,” Downing Street, his official office, said in a statement.

U.S

As well as the countries of Europe, the United States has also ordered the departure of most diplomatic employees from Ukraine due to the threat of an imminent Russian attack on that country.

“On February 12, the State Department ordered the departure of most US direct-hire employees from the Embassy in Kiev due to the continuing threat of Russian military action,” the legation noted in a new travel alert for Ukraine.
