“This is the case of Spanish companies, if now the relationship is not good and I would like it to take until it was normalized, to take a break, which I think it will suit us Mexicans and Spaniardsof course to the people of Mexico and the people of Spain,” he added.

López Obrador has spoken of a “collusion above, an economic, political promiscuity, in the leadership of the Governments of Mexico and Spain” for about “three six-year terms in a row” and has assured that Mexico was the one that took the “worst part” because “they looted us”. “Then, It’s better to give us some time, a pause“, he insisted.

In particular, he named companies from the energy and construction sectors that made contracts with the Administrations of Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto.

López Obrador has repeatedly criticized Spain’s refusal to apologize to the indigenous peoples of Mexico for the abuses committed during the conquest, such as he asked for 2021, when 500 years of the event were commemorated, renamed “indigenous resistance”.
