Afghan politician refugee in Spain says that women are the targets of the Taliban

This Tuesday Khadija Ahmadi, an Afghan refugee and former mayor of a town in her country, said that women like her fight for the rights of Afghans, but the rights there have already been forgotten, and now they are the targets of the Taliban.

Ahmadi participated in the talk “Afghan women in Spain: symbol of a universal tragedy”, which took place in the city of Zaragoza (north) and could be followed on the internet, together with Sunita Nasir, also a refugee, a civil engineer, civil servant United Nations and based in the Spanish city of Salamanca (center).

Khadija Ahmadi, former mayor of Nili (Afghanistan), Afghan refugee residing in Zaragoza, and former UN Habitat urban planning adviser, denounced that “the main victim of the Afghan people are women”, and affirmed that they are not considered humans.

The former mayor of Nili said that “women and girls are prisoners in their own homes under the Taliban regime, they are prisoners of the system and victims of forced marriage. Many women have been sent to prison for being women.”

“We have witnessed the killing of men, women and children just for supporting the idea of ​​democracy in Afghanistan,” Ahmadi said.

The refugee also stated that they feel that the international community has forgotten the Afghans, “six months have passed since Kabul fell and today we see that the international community has not fulfilled the promises of humanitarian aid.”

On the other hand, Sunita Nasri explained the hard experience of fleeing your country. “I hope that the Spanish government, the European Union and the United Nations help Afghan women”, they cannot underestimate our value “, she affirmed.

She also pleaded that the Taliban government not be recognized as legitimate under any circumstances, since it “will never recognize the fundamental rights of women.”

Both expressed their gratitude to the Spanish government and the armed forces, “I have survived thanks to the Spanish government. I want to thank them for having brought 2,000 Afghan citizens to Spain,” concluded Ahmadi.

After the takeover of Kabul by the Taliban last August, hundreds of thousands of Afghans fled the country. According to the United Nations, some eleven million people are refugees, almost a third of the Afghan population. (I)
