This Tuesday the NGO Justicia Venezolana denounced that in the Caribbean country there are 190 soldiers imprisoned in civil and military facilities for political reasons, of the 252 who have been prosecuted for this reason.
“The update of information that the organization had been working on since the beginning of the year, showed that, of the 252 soldiers prosecuted for political reasons, up to now, 190 are those who are imprisoned in civil and military prisons,” said the director of the NGO, Lilia Camejo GutiĆ©rrez, outlined in a statement.
The NGO explained that, to this number, another 10 “political prisoners” must be added corresponding to “mixed cases”, which implies that they involve civilians and soldiers.
In addition, the organization referred to the irregularities suffered by these people during their detention and listed, among them, the procedural delay and their imprisonment in common prisons.
“In all the judicial phases of the cases of military political prisoners, the illegal practice of procedural delay is imposed,” added the NGO.
Regarding the detention in prisons for civilians, the director of the NGO questioned that active officers remain in these spaces, when the military justice foresees the prison centers in which they should be.
Venezuelan Justice insisted that, “repeatedly”, improvements have been requested in the conditions of detention for “military political prisoners”, as well as humanitarian measures for officers with illnesses and the review of the cases of those who have more than 1,000 days detained without there having been any statement or official response so far.
On January 31, this same organization denounced that at least 13 inmates considered “political prisoners” were transferred from the Ramo Verde National Center for Military Processors to common prisons, which represents a “risk” in the continuity of their process. of judgement.
Camejo explained in the statement that the transfers were made “arbitrarily” and without notifying the judge, relatives and lawyers.
He specified that, of the 13 “political prisoners” transferred from the Ramo Verde prison, 4 were taken to the Rodeo II prison, 3 to Rodeo III and 6 to Yare III.
The NGO explained that these inmates are the ones who allegedly assaulted a military base on August 6, 2017, known as Fort Paramacay, north of the central state of Carabobo, in northern Venezuela. (I)
