The use of a mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus will no longer be mandatory outdoors in Spain from next Thursday, except in mass events, such as sports events, where you are standing or when you cannot maintain a distance of 1.5 meters between people if you remain seated.
The Government will approve the rule tomorrow, after the Ministry of Health and the regions agreed on this Monday, when the incidence of the sixth wave of infections has clearly been falling for several days, although still at extremely high levels.
The obligation to always wear a mask outdoors, even if the interpersonal safety distance was possible, has been in force since last Christmas Eve, in the midst of an explosion of cases attributed to the omicron viral variant, the most contagious to date.
However, the authorities will recommend maintaining use in crowds.
Also today, the Government and regional administrations decided to increase the capacity at sporting events, which go from 75% to 85% in open venues; and from 50% to 75% if they are closed.
Last Friday, the last day with updated national data, Health reported an incidence of 2,299 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants on average in 14 days.
Although the daily number of infected continues to decline, last week an average of 56,000 new cases and 119 deaths were registered each day. (I)
