The Arriaga Theater will premiere its new function Erresuma/Kingdom/Reign this Friday, February 11, in Basque and next February 17 in Spanish.
The artistic director of the Arriaga, Calixto Bieito, has had in mind for a long time to translate the tragedies of William Shakespeare into Spanish and Basque, and has finally been able to materialize his dream, accompanied by a stupendous cast of actors and actresses: Joseba Apaolaza, Lucía Astigarraga, Ylenia Baglietto, Ainhoa Etxebarria, Miren Gaztañaga, Iñaki Maruri, Koldo Olabarri, Lander Otaola, Eneko Sagardoy and Mitxel Santamarina. In Spanish, José María Pou will also join them.
Its managers claim that Erresuma/Kingdom/Reign It is “a very aesthetically and visually powerful theatrical proposal” based on the main characters of Shakespeare’s tragedies.
Bieito has opted for an adaptation that synthesizes the tragedies of William Shakespeare and is committed “to maintaining the essence, the basics of the English author’s work: his language, his violence and his poetry.”
