News Corp said it informed authorities of the attack and hired cybersecurity firm Mandiant to investigate what happened.

“Mandiant believes that those behind this activity have a link to China and we believe that they are likely involved in espionage activities to gather intelligence for the benefit of Chinese interests,” said David Wong, vice president of incident response, quoted by the Wall Street Journal.

The intrusion was detected on January 20 and is believed to have started eleven months ago, in February 2020. According to the investigation, the hackers are believed to have had access to the emails and Google Docs accounts of journalists, including to drafts of your articles.
