Tesla is recalling more than 817,000 cars in the United States because the seat belt reminder may not sound when the vehicle is started without the driver engaged.
The measure affects the sedan Model S and the sport truck Model X from 2021 and 2022; to the Model 3 sedan from 2017 to 2022, and to the station wagon Model Y SUV from 2020 to 2022, according to documentation published by security regulators.
Federal motor vehicle safety laws require the warning light to sound when cars start and stop when the front seat belts are fastened.
According to recall documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue only occurs if the driver abandoned the car on the previous trip while the advisory was active.
Tesla will fix the issue with a new software update earlier this month. The safety agency says that, without the alarm, a driver may not know if his belt is loose, increasing the risk of injury during an accident.
The company said in the documents that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries for this reason. The car continues to display a visual reminder to wear a seat belt.
The problem was discovered by the South Korea Automobile Research and Testing Institute on January 6. Tesla investigated it and determined that it was necessary to recall his case on January 25, according to the documents.
