Music fans around the world have spent, on average in the last year, 18.4 hours a week listening to music, compared to 18 hours in 2019, according to a study released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (FDPI, for its acronym in English).
The analysis, entitled “Engaging with music 2021” (Motivate with music), indicates that this time is equivalent to listening to 368 songs of an approximate duration of three minutes.
For this study, 43,000 people between the ages of 16 and 64 from 21 countries were surveyed electronically, including Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
Most of those surveyed claimed to listen to music through digital platforms, according to the analysis, carried out by the firm AudienceNet.
Subscription to these applications increased by 51% and one of the main reasons for the rise is the autonomy it offers its users to choose songs or artists.
Another piece of information emerging from the study is the increasingly popular dedication to viewing live concerts through streaming technology.
The president of the Federation, author of the study, Frances Moore, declared “Engaging with the music 2021”, offers us information on how fans and music fans around the world enjoy it more and more and in more media than ever before “
In addition, this study reveals that music contributes to the improvement of emotional well-being, especially in the youngest, 87% confessed that they resorted to listening to music during the pandemic to distract themselves or improve their mood.
