The president assumes power in a ceremony held in a renovated National Stadium in Tegucigalpa.
Thousands of Hondurans from different regions of the country began in an orderly manner to form long lines from the early hours of the day to attend the inauguration of Castro, who last November 28 overwhelmingly won the eleventh consecutive general election since 1981. , after the return to constitutional order in 1980.

Castro is the first Honduran woman to reach the Presidency in the entire political history of her country.
In addition, with his victory, under the banner of the Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre), founded in 2011, the left comes to power for the first time in Honduras.
Castro will succeed to the Presidency of Honduras John Orlando Hernandez, of the conservative National Party, who has been in office since 2014 and last night said goodbye with a message on the national radio and television network in which he summarized what for him were the main achievements of his term and wished “the best” to the new government that will take over today.
In a strongly conservative country, the arrival of Castro may be a small boost for the improvement of Honduran women’s rights.
The left returns to power after twelve years of conservative governments, also accused of complicity with drug trafficking, in a country with high rates of poverty, violence and corruption that has been established at all levels in the institutions.
This is my Honduras, its people, its values and its wealth. Let’s leave behind the dark past to be reborn and show the world what we truly are. Together we will make our Homeland even bigger. ¿¿ pic.twitter.com/s4z5l3Un6A
