The 68-year-old president entered the hospital of the Ministry of National Defense on Friday.
This Monday the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, affirmed that he is in good health and ready to work with “intensity” after a cardiac catheterization was performed last Friday.
“I am very well, (the doctors) have already given me permission to apply myself thoroughly, to continue working intensely and carry out or consummate the transformation of the public life of the country,” said the president during his morning press conference from the Palace National.
The 68-year-old president entered the hospital of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) on Friday to undergo catheterization, an exploration of the arteries and the heart after a stress test was done 15 days ago, according to revealed last Saturday after leaving the hospital.
López Obrador thanked people on Monday for caring and for the messages of support he received after the intervention to which he underwent.
And he even pointed out that opposition figures also worried about his health.
“When it comes to a health issue, there is solidarity, there are sincere displays of affection. I thank you all,” he said.
He announced that this weekend he will travel to the southeast of the country to supervise the progress in the construction of the Mayan Train and recalled that he will visit the states of Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
The president’s health has drawn attention because he has been infected twice with covid-19, the first time in January 2021.
In addition, the leftist politician suffers from hypertension and suffered an acute myocardial infarction in December 2013, for which he then underwent coronary surgery.
A “political testament”
Regarding the “political testament” that he has prepared, the president asserted that this document, which has already been written, seeks to ensure the country’s stability and that “in the event of my death, continuity in the transformation process is guaranteed and that there is no ungovernability”.
“It would be irresponsible not to foresee these things. We are human beings,” López Obrador stressed when explaining his intentions with this “political testament”, which he announced in the message on Saturday, when he announced his medical discharge.
“It should not be surprising, this (the testament) applies until I am in the performance of my function as president of the Republic and also in general, this testament will be known when I cease to exist,” he said, although he refused to give document details.
And he reiterated that in his health “everything is going very well”, in addition to the fact that the doctors guaranteed him that he can “go ahead”.
“I am in good health, in good spirits, with enthusiasm and with the commitment to move forward and to continue carrying out the transformation for the benefit of the people and our beloved Mexico,” he concluded. (I)
