The United States has ordered the departure of Ukraine of the families of the employees in its embassy in the country, and has authorized the departure of non-essential personnel in the face of the “continued threat of military action by Russia”.
This is underlined by the State Department in a statement in which it has also recommended that all Americans who are in Ukraine leave the country. “There are reports that Russia is planning significant military action against Ukraine and security conditions, particularly on Ukraine’s borders, in Crimea and in Russian-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine, are unpredictable and can “deteriorate without warning,” they note.
In addition, he has warned that Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine could “seriously impact the US embassy” and its ability to provide consular services.
Therefore, they consider that Americans who are in the country “They should leave using commercial transport or other private options available.”
However, the European Union will not reduce the staff of its Embassy in Ukraine, as explained by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, who has asked not to “dramatize”.
“We will not do the same, because we have no specific reason (…) I don’t think we have to dramatize while the negotiations continue and are continuing. I don’t think we have to leave Ukraine.”, Borrell indicated upon his arrival at the meeting that the EU foreign ministers are holding today in Brussels.
The heads of European diplomacy will hold a telematic meeting with the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in which he will explain his meeting on Friday with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and the reasons why he has ordered the reduction of personnel of the American Embassy in Kiev.
Russia accuses the US of preparing “major provocations”
Russia has accused the United States of preparing “big provocations” to win over public opinion in the face of the tense situation on the border with Ukraine.
“They are preparing, possibly, a series of big provocations. They are preparing public consciousness and opinion. For NATO and the Anglo-Saxons it is extremely important to create such an environment. If not, they cannot act,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zajarova told Russia 1 television.
This is how Moscow responds to the declarations of The United Kingdom, which accused Russia of preparing an operation to overthrow the Ukrainian government and install a sympathetic president. Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry rejected this “nonsense” and called for an end to the “provocations”.
Sánchez transfers to Europe the commitment with the Atlantic Alliance
Meanwhile, the President of the Government has established this weekend a round of contacts with the different European leaders. On Saturday, he spoke with France, Norway, the United Kingdom and Germany, and this Sunday with the Secretary General of NATO and with the President of the European Commission
In all these dialogues, the head of the Executive transferred the country’s support for “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, while highlighting his confidence that “diplomacy and dialogue are the path to de-escalation in this crisis.” Similarly, he insisted in Spain’s commitment to the Atlantic Alliance in the face of growing tension.
For his part, the Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, has requested an urgent appearance in the Congress of Deputies to report on the situation in Ukraine. To solve the conflict, explained Albares, the Government is committed to dialogue, but in the event that it does not bear fruit, “we will be on the side of the NATO allies in dissuasion”.
