The United States warns Russia of the “serious consequences” of a possible attack on Ukraine

At the moment the attempts to lower the tension around Ukraine they have not been successful. The United States and the European Union have stepped up via diplomacy to prevent a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. In this context, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

The latter has once again warned about the “serious consequences” of a hypothetical Russian attack on Ukraine. “We are at a decisive moment,” acknowledged the head of US diplomacy, during a visit to Germany that was preceded by a stopover in Ukraine.

Blinken has stressed that he is committed to dialogue, but that the ball is in the Russian court. “We have been very clear that if Russia moves its troops towards the Ukrainian border and commits new acts of aggression, there will be a swift, forceful and united response from the United States and our allies,” Blinken said, according to the Bloomberg news agency.

The main Russian demand is for NATO to stop its expansion in Eastern Europe. Moreover, it demands a commitment from the West not to accept Ukraine as a member. NATO, for its part, has made it clear that it is not willing to let anyone dictate who can join and when.
