Qatar 2022: World Cup final tickets will be 46% more expensive

Soccer fans took notice of the cost when tickets went on sale Wednesday.

The sharp increase in prices for the decisive match of the first World Cup in the Middle East contrasts with the decrease in the cost of the cheapest tickets for the group stage — except for the opening game — and the round of 16.

Fans will be able to submit online applications to purchase tickets.

The most expensive tickets for the Dec. 18 final at Lusail Stadium are 5,850 Qatari riyals ($1,607), a 46% increase from the $1,100 for a ticket to the 2018 final won by France.

Tickets for the second category will cost 3,650 Qatari riyals ($1,003), an increase of $710 from the final four years ago. Tickets in the third category — the cheapest for foreign fans — will cost 2,200 Qatari riyals ($604), exceeding Russia 2018’s $455 cost.

Tickets in the fourth category for local residents soared from the equivalent of $110 in Russia to 750 Qatari riyals ($206).

The cheapest tickets allocated for international sale for the opening match — with hosts Qatar — on Nov. 21 soared 37% to $302 (1,100 Qatari riyals) after costing $220 in Russia. The increase is also important in the other categories, from US$390 to US$440 in the second category.

For other group stage matches, Qatari residents will be able to purchase tickets at a cost of 40 Qatari riyals ($11) — the cheapest since Mexico 1986, when tickets were about $3 — based on type. exchange for that year. In Russia, tickets available to local fans cost about $22, twice as much as in Qatar.

The cheapest tickets for international sale will have the lowest cost since Germany 2006 at 250 Qatari riyals ($69). Tickets for the first category rose marginally, from $210 to $220, and those for the second category remained at $165.

FIFA tickets will be distributed by drawing lots and not by open sale. Fans will only find out if they have won tickets after the draw, at the end of the first application phase on February 8.

The ticket sales process will begin at a time when only 13 of the 32 teams participating in the contest have been defined. The qualifiers will not conclude until June, when the intercontinental playoffs take place.

As well as being able to apply for individual match tickets, fans will be able to register to accompany their team throughout the tournament and attend four matches in four different stadiums.

FIFA is seeking $500 million from sales of tickets and packages that include accommodation and other services for the World Cup, according to the latest financial report from soccer’s governing body.

Unlike previous editions of the World Cup, there will be little need to travel within Qatar to get from one stadium to another.

All sub-sites are within a radius of about 50 kilometers (30 miles).

They would be the shortest tours within a World Cup host country since Switzerland 1954. In contrast, there would be little availability of hotels.

Local organizers have booked most of the accommodation in Qatar, so there was no chance to make online reservations for the tournament days on Tuesday.

The availability of rooms in other hotels, apartments and even cruise ships will be opened through a website. Only about 90,000 rooms will be available to the public. 40,000 will be reserved for the teams, managers, sponsors and journalists.

Although camping in the desert was a mentioned option for fans to find lodging, it is now rarely mentioned. There will be 4,000 cruise ship cabins docking off Doha for the tournament.
