The Duke of York is fighting a legal battle for sexual abuse in the United States.
Uncle and nephew, the prince andrew and the prince henry they could face a new double humiliation, as British royal officials consider ways to eliminate another of their important roles.
Buckingham Palace is studying how to withdraw the role of Councilors of State to the Duke of York and the Duke of Sussex, a potentially important position that they both still hold.
Andrés and Enrique, ninth and sixth in the line of succession to the throne, respectively, already have been stripped of their royal patronages and military titles by the Queen, and both have asked not to use the name His Royal Highness.
Palace sources to whom the Daily Mail had access confirmed that they remain two of the four Councilors of State, so they would be authorized to carry out most of the official functions of the monarch, such as sign important documents, attend Privy Council meetings and receive credentials from new ambassadors to the UK
“It is a real problem that the Palace is trying to solve. Can you imagine if the Duke of York had to sign official documents, for example, because the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were abroad and the Queen was ill? It is not an exaggeration to say that it could endanger the monarchy.”a royal source said, according to the British newspaper.
The sources suggested that Andrés, 61, and Enrique, 37, could not be stripped of their functions without first passing an Act of Parliament.
Both Andrés and Enrique have been stripped of their royal patronages and military titles in the middle of the judicial battle that Andrés maintains for a case of sexual abuse related to Jeffrey Epstein and of the Henry’s decision to abandon the kingship and move to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Andrés and Enrique will also not be able to receive the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal next month, since they have lost their honorary military titles, although it is known that they were initially on the list of winners. (I)
