Let us recall: in October, the CJEU also fined Poland one million euro a day for failing to suspend the Disciplinary Chamber.

The dispute over the mine in Turów

Prague is in a dispute with Warsaw before the European Court of Justice, arguing that the lignite mine in Turów has a negative impact on the environment. Poland presented an offer, inter alia, of financial compensation for the Czech side in exchange for the withdrawal of the claim from the CJEU.

Last year, the vice president of the Tribunal, Rosario Silva de Lapuerta, ordered the suspension of mining in Turów. Poland did not comply with this decision, so in September the Court ordered a fine of EUR 500,000 a day for mining.

Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa informed this week that another Polish-Czech talks on Turow are to take place on January 18. In an interview on Telewizja Trwam, she expressed the hope that the talks with the Czech Minister of the Environment, Anna Hubaczkowa, would take place in a better atmosphere than those with Richard Brabec, the previous head of the Ministry of Environment.

The money is to be deducted from budgetary payments and not from the National Reconstruction Plan.
