The Zaragoza-based company Atalaya Generación has planned to build two water ponds. Both projects, named Vitoria and Subijana-Morillas, would add a storage capacity of 25 gigawatt hours. The Basque Government does not support the project.

The company Generation Watchtower, based in Zaragoza, has proposed to build two rafts of water in Álava. Specifically, it aims to promote two pumping stations, conceived both to satisfy the demand as to store energy. The Basque Government does not support it, due to its characteristics, according to sources from the Executive to EiTB Media.

However, permits will depend, by size of the installation and power, of the Spanish Government.

Both projects, by name Vitoria and Subijana-Morillas, would add a storage power of 25 gigawatt hours, which would mean the largest capacity facility in Spain.

During the day electricity is generated by expelling the water through a turbine, and by the nightWhen the light is cheaper, it is pumped back to the upper basin. That way profitability is achieved.
