A 6.9 earthquake hits China’s Qinghai province

China registered an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 on Saturday in the western province of Qinghai that so far has not left any fatalities, reports the official press.

The tremor occurred at 01:45 local time (17:45 GMT on Friday) in an area of ​​”scattered population” more than 3,600 meters above sea level, with an epicenter 10 kilometers deep.

State television CGTN points out that, for now, there have only been reports of “minor damage” to some houses in the area and the collapse of numerous stables.

With just under 6 million inhabitants, remote Qinghai is one of the least densely populated provinces in China.

The Ministry of Emergency Management announced this morning the dispatch of a working group to provide support to those affected by the earthquake and check the situation and its consequences.
