In Hungary, the first cases of the mixture of influenza and coronavirus have been detected, which has been called “flurone”, as the union of the words “flue” (flu in English) and corona, the local press reported today.
The private laboratory Neumann Labs has identified the presence of flurone in two cases, both of which involve young people under 30 years of age, the digital newspaper Népszava reported.
On the other hand, the same laboratory reported that 78 percent of the new cases of coronavirus detected in the center are already due to the omicron variant.
According to information published today by the Hungarian health authorities, the omicron is responsible for 11 percent of new infections nationwide.
In the Central European country, new cases and deaths from covid have decreased in recent weeks, but experts point out that in a few weeks the fifth wave could explode, precisely due to the spread of the omicron.
In the last 24 hours in the Central European country of 9.7 million inhabitants, 2,429 new cases of coronavirus and 83 deaths have been detected.
Despite the fact that Hungary started an accelerated population immunization program a year ago, also using vaccines not authorized by the European Union, such as the Chinese Sinopharm and the Russian Sputnik V, the level of vaccination has stagnated.
Currently only 62% of the population was immunized with the full regimen, while 33% also received the third, booster dose.
