Residents of several more cities joined the actions of the “gas” protest in Kazakhstan

Residents of a number of regions of Kazakhstan today took part in rallies in support of protesters in the Mangistau region against the rise in prices for liquefied gas, Interfax reports.

So, in Nur-Sultan, those who came to the rally demanded to organize a teleconference with the protesters in Aktau in order to express their support. The police detained several people.

The most numerous rallies are held in Aktau (the administrative center of the Mangistau region) – about 16 thousand people have gathered there and about 10 thousand protesters in Zhanaozen, according to the Telegram channel “Before all”.

In addition, numerous rallies in support of the protesters in Mangistau are being held in Atyrau and Uralsk – they have gathered hundreds of people, the Vlast newspaper notes.

Let’s remind, earlier in Kazakhstan the prices for automobile liquefied gas soared – from 60 to 120 tenge per liter (from 10.2 rubles to 20.5 rubles per liter). In this regard, protest actions began. The protesters blocked the roads in Aktau and Zhanaozen. The area of the Akimat of the Mangistau region was cordoned off. Moreover, KazTAG reported on the arrival of two military-type aircraft in Aktau and on the transfer of security forces to Zhanaozen. Protesters even blocked the road from the airport.

Earlier today, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev reacted to mass protests in Aktau against the rise in prices for liquefied gas, calling on those who were dissatisfied to dialogue. He assured that a government commission had started its work, whose tasks are precisely “to find a mutually acceptable solution to the problem in the interests of ensuring stability in the country.”

Later it was reported that representatives of the protesters and members of the government commission that arrived in the region began negotiations on resolving the situation, RIA Novosti reports.

The commission is headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Yeraly Tugzhanov.
