Canada will denounce the US to the WTO for imposing tariffs on Canadian products

The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has declared that Canada will not be left crossing before the new tariff offensive of the United States. This Tuesday, Trudeau announced that his government will present formal demands before the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the T-MEC, in response to the imposition of 25% tariffs on Canadian products by the Donald Trump administration.

As immediate retaliation, Canada began applying 25% tariffs on US goods valued at 30,000 million Canadian dollars (approximately 20,000 million euros). The measure, according to Trudeau, is only the beginning of a series of actions that Ottawa is willing to take If Washington does not rectify its position within a period of 21 days.

The prime minister has accused Trump to seek the economic destruction of Canada in order to facilitate his “annexation” to American power. According to Trudeau, Trump’s justifications for new levies, mainly the fight against fentanil, are “false” and lack foundation. “The excuse of fentanyl is fictitious,” he stressed.

If US rates do not rise within the stipulated time, Canada will expand reprisals, affecting US assets for an additional value of 125,000 million dollars. In addition, the Canadian government is evaluating non -tariff measuresincluding energy export restrictions, which could seriously affect the supply of gas, oil and electricity to millions of homes in northern US.
