China chased Poland: From China to the European Union in 2024 he hit large household appliances sold for EUR 4.3 billion, at the same time Poland has generated sales at “only” EUR 3.7 billion. Sales on the EU market have only increased by 3 percent, while China by as much as 32 percent. Thus, for the first time, they dethroned our country as the largest supplier in this sector in the EU.
Nobody produces more in the EU than us: Poland still remains the largest manufacturer of household appliances in the European Union. However, we produce less than in the best years. In 2021, native factories released 30.5 million pieces of such equipment. In the next two years, however, there was a burst and in 2022 it was only 25.8 million, in 2023 – 23.2 million of produced copies. It wasn’t until last year that production increased again, by 2 percent. up to 23.4 million pieces.
Problems of the household appliances industry: The decrease in the sale of household appliances is the result of market cramps. People bought a lot in the pandemic, in fear of losing money and price increases. The demand boom, however, has stopped and reacts not only by Poland. Industry representatives, however, hope that the recovery in the economy and improvement of consumer moods will act not only in Poland, but throughout the Union. Market expectations are therefore optimistic, although they consider the last year to be difficult.
That’s why China chased us away: The household appliances industry believes that products from China have become more attractive for several reasons. Firstly labor costs in Europe are rising among others for the sake of environmental regulations that increase energy costs. The factories are closing. In addition China increases the competitiveness of their market by supporting exports and introducing government preferences for local companies. Subsidies on the local market mean that Polish producers instead of competition from China are looking at the one from Turkey, which systematically increases export to Europe and is the third largest producer, right after Poland and China.
To the rescue of the duties? Jacek Rutkowski, the president of Amica, notes that such a situation on the market cannot stay longer. European manufacturers lose to the competition from China, And the answer to this can be customs, as in the case of electric cars. However, the industry has a dilemma – Speak Rutkowski – because he earns a lot on deliveries from China.
