A great change in the EU. Tusk confirms. We have no “unpleasant consequences” anymore. It’s about defense

Donald Tusk confirmed after the meeting of European allies in Paris that Poland is no longer in danger of an excessive deficit. And this is because the Union introduces a large change regarding the counting of defense expenditure. What is changing? What did Donald Tusk accurately announced?

Defense expenses excluded from the account: – We received confirmation that Investments in defense will not be treated as excessive expenses – Donald Tusk informed in Paris. Therefore, Poland will not be threatened with the excessive deficit procedure – he added – “which has its unpleasant consequences.” – This is an important change. A serious concession to the logic that Poland has talked about for many months – said Tusk. He explained that the increase in expenditure will be implemented at the level of Member States and European institutions, but “proposals for cooperation with banks” are to appear.

The Union can launch billions of euros: Polish Prime Minister in Paris also stated that Europe has a “really solid” financial reserve for defense. The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen was to confirm that I am talking about “many, many billions of euros that can be launched right away”. Tusk emphasized that it is not about European bonds. – These are loans that the European Union has already ordered from projects from these traditional sources. Until now, they could not be used for defensive purposes – he added and explained that he expected that the details of the plan would be presented at the nearest European Council.

Tusk wants to spend more on defense: The prime minister also said that “a clear increase in defense expenditure is absolutely necessary.” – There is nothing to get irritatedwhen the American ally says: “spend more, be stronger, be more resistant”. These words find absolutely justification in the facts – added the prime minister. He explained that expenditure increases are to be carried out at the level of individual EU countries, but also at the institutional level of the community and at the banking level.

Tusk only confirmed: News from Paris are not new, the prime minister only confirmed earlier information about the excessive deficit procedure. Ursula von der Leyen last Friday said that she would propose the so -called escape clause, which will enable the loosening of the rules according to which the budget deficit may not exceed 3 percent. GDP. The same clause has already been launched during a pandemic. On Monday, before Tusk’s speech, deputy finance minister PaweÅ‚ Karbownik said that Ursula von der Leyen supported Poland’s proposal regarding the exclusion of defense expenses from the assessment of deficit and debt. The Karbownik also said that it is both about equipment expenses, but also about expenses for new soldiers.
