Lebanon rejects Israel’s request to maintain five positions in the south

The president of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, announced on Thursday the rejection of his country to an request from Israel to maintain five positions in the south of Lebanon After February 18, deadline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces.

USAas a mediator, “he informed me that the Israeli occupation will retire on February 18 from the villages that it still occupies, but that it will remain in five positions,” Berri said, according to his office.

“I informed you, in my name and in the name of the president and prime minister, our absolute rejection” to this proposal.

Berri made these statements after meeting in Beirut with the United States ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, and the American general Jasper Jeffers, at the head of the committee that supervises the high -fire agreement that came into force on November 27 after more two months of war between the Hezbollah Lebanese, Proiraní, and Israel.

“I have refused to talk about any extension of the term for the withdrawal” of Israel, Berri added.

According to the Truce agreement, only the Lebanese army and the UN blue helmets can be deployed in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli army had to complete its retirement on January 26, after a 60 -day period. The replication operation lasted until February 18.

For its part Hezbollah, weakened by war, has to withdraw its forces north of the Litani River, about 30 km from the border, and dismantling its military infrastructure in the south.
