A federal judge temporarily blocks Trump’s order to freeze foreign aid

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the order of the president of the United States, Donald Trumpof freeze foreign aid of the United States, mainly channeled through the Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Judge of the District of Columbia Amir Ali has issued an order on Thursday in response to a Demand filed by two health organizations that receive funds from the US government to finance programs abroad. The judicial decision indicates that the government, for now, cannot suspend or cancel foreign aid which had already been approved before Trump assumed the mandate.

Following the order issued by Trump at the end of January, its Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, issued a directive in which he stopped all foreign assistance, with Exception of support for Israel and Egyptand maintained only food sending in extreme emergency situations.

The decision unleashed panic in humanitarian organizations around the world that depend on contracts with the United States to continue operating. According to the UN, the United States is, long, Main Foreign Aid Supplierwith about 72,000 million dollars invested for 2023, which represents 40% of global humanitarian aid.

According to the new doctrine of the US government, every dollar invested must “make the United States a safer, stronger and more prosperous country.” The 90 -day break is, according to the State Department, “the only way to examine and prevent waste.” In addition, 50 senior USAID positions were suspended due to suspicions that they would have resisted complying with orders.
