White House delays an announcement of imposition to reciprocal tariff countries

The trade advisor and manufacture of USA, Peter Navarro, pointed out on Tuesday that duty reciprocal that the president, Donald Trumphas promised to impose on certain business partners will not be detailed this week.

What will be advanced, according to the CNN chain, is that the representatives of the Treasury and Commerce will at first study the tariffs and other commercial barriers in force.

“There are still no reciprocal tariffs. Let’s not hurry. What will happen is that we are going to look at all our commercial partners, starting with those with whom we have the greatest deficits. We will discover if they are deceiving the American people and if they are taking measures to correct that error, ”he said.

On February 7, in statements to the press in the Oval Office next to the Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ihiba, Trump said that this week he was going to announce those reciprocal tariffs to be treated to the United States on equal terms.

“We don’t want more or less,” said the Republican leader, who began his second term on January 20.

Since he arrived at the White House, he has used tariff threats as a pressure tool against other countries, although economists warn that this type of measures could generate a price increase within the United States.

Trump announced 25 % tariffs for Mexico and Canada, their neighbors and main shopping partners, for February 4, but delayed their imposition one month after these countries agreed to increase border control to reduce fentanyl traffic and arrival of migrants to American territory.

The president did fulfill the imposition of an additional 10 % tariff for China, which was responded by similar levies by the Asian giant.

On Monday he also signed two executive orders to impose 25 % tariff levies to all imports of aluminum and steel, which will enter into force as of March 12. “We cannot afford to have strong steel and aluminum industries,” Navarro said Tuesday.
