The Colombian president disavowes the entry of US planes with deportees

The president of Colombia,Gustavo Petrohe said Sunday that he will not allow the country of airplanes with citizens deported by the US if they do not receive decent treatment.

“The US cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals. Unauthorized the entry of American airplanes with Colombian migrants to our territory. The US must establish a decent treatment protocol for migrants before we receive them, ”Petro said in a message in his X account.

The president said he “returned US military planes that came with Colombian migrants.”

“A migrant is not a criminal and must be treated with the dignity that a human being deserves,” he insisted and added: “I can’t make migrants (be) in a country that does not want them, but if that country returns them It must be with dignity and respect with them and our country. ”

For that reason, the president requested that these people be sent “in civil planes, without criminals’ treatment,” because “Colombia is respected.”

US has already sent several airplanes to Latin America with deportees

The announcement occurs in the midst of the controversy in several Latin American countries for deportations as part of the migration policy of the US president, Donald Trump.

The Brazilian government denounced on Saturday the use of wives by US authorities against citizens of that country during a deportation flight.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, ordered the Federal Police to ask the US agents to withdraw “immediate” from the wives, as soon as the plane made a technical stop in the city of Manaus, according to a statement.

On Friday, the White House indicated that the deportations of migrants had “started”, in reference to Trump’s main campaign promise to carry out the greatest operation of mass expulsion of foreigners in the history of the United States.

On the same day, the first two deportation flights to Guatemala arrived in that country from Laredo (Texas).

Petro sees Trump’s comments “dangerous”

Petro has questioned some of Trump’s decisions or policies, and last Tuesday he called “dangerous” the comment made by the White House on Latin America, a region on which the American ruler said: “We do not need them.”

“We must wait for the development of relationships and politics on the planet, not only in the United States. But I would say that the announcement that we are alone and we do not care Latin America, etc., is a dangerous announcement not for the world only, but for the American society itself, ”Petro told reporters.

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, also assured on Saturday that the United States “would not be what it is” without the Mexicans who are going to work there, before the beginning of the migratory raids that began after the arrival in the presidency of Trump.

There are 15,660 Americans in “irregular way” in Colombia

The president of Colombia affirms this Sunday that in the country there are 15,660 Americans established in “irregular way” and invited them to approach “regularize their situation.”

“There are 15,660 Americans established in Colombia irregularly. They must approach our immigration service to regularize their situation, ”said the president in the social network X.

Petro also pointed out that “the American citizens who wish can be in Colombia” because he believes “in human freedom. But more than 15,660 are irregular and by Colombian laws they must regularize their stay. ”

“They will never see me burning a gringa flag or making a ‘ratzia’ to return the illegal handcuffs to the US of the real libertarians we will never assault human freedom. We are the opposite of the Nazis, ”said the president.

In that sense, the president said that “first is the dignity of Colombia and Latin America,” because he considered that “migrants are human beings and subjects of rights and as such must be treated.”
