Musk Tacha to the USAID agency of “Criminal Organization”

The tycoon Elon Musk He described the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Sunday as a “criminal organization”, after President Donald Trump decided to freeze Washington’s aid to other countries for three months.

“USAID is a criminal organization,” Musk wrote on his social network X, in responding to a video in which this dependence is allegedly involved “in dirty work of the CIA” and in the “Internet censorship.”

Trump’s advisor and Spacex owner went further in another message. Without presenting evidence, he asked his 215 million followers: “Did you know that Usaid, using their taxes, financed biological weapons investigations, including COVID-19, which killed millions of people?”

The businessman did not give more details about such accusations, than officials of the previous administration of Democrat Joe Biden had linked to a Russian misinformation campaign.

Since Trump froze international aid, humanitarian workers claim that there is a lot of uncertainty and that the impact of the measure already feels among the most vulnerable in the world.

In command of the Government Efficiency Department (Doge, acronym in English), Musk received Trump’s task to cut government jobs and what he considers unnecessary expenses.

Some reports indicate that the Republican president wants to incorporate the USAID to the structure of the State Department, but his team did not respond to an AFP comments request.

The agency account in X was disabled, confirmed the AFP, and its website is still not working this Sunday.

The USAID, an independent agency created by a Congress Law, has a budget of 42.8 billion dollars allocated to humanitarian aid and development assistance worldwide.

The CNN chain reported that two senior security officials from the USAID received a forced decline after they prevented Doge personnel from accessing classified documents.

Doge also requested to consult the files of the staff and the security system of the agency’s headquarters, according to that medium, which cited several sources.
