The FBI confirmed this Friday that Donald Trump He was actually wounded by a bullet “whole or fragmented” during the failed assassination attempt which he suffered days ago, after the former president criticized the US federal police for maintaining vagueness on the issue.
“What hit former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, either whole or fragmented into small pieces”the FBI said in a statement Friday, responding to Trump’s criticism.
The Republican presidential candidate for next November’s election was shot on July 13 during a campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania and was slightly injured in his right ear.
“I imagine this will be the best apology we will ever receive from Director Wray, but it is fully accepted!”the former president (2017-2021) reacted on his Truth Social platform.
FBI Director Christopher Wray said Wednesday that questions remained about whether it was “a bullet or a piece of shrapnel hit his ear”during a hearing in the United States Congress.
Shortly afterward, Trump accused the FBI of political bias: “Unfortunately, it was a bullet that hit my ear (…) there was no glass or shrapnel.”
On the same day of the assassination attempt, Trump said he had been “hit by a bullet that passed through the top of the right ear”. He then declared to his followers that he had “shot for democracy.”
According to an article in The New York Times published on Friday, “A detailed analysis of bullet trajectories, images, photographs and sound recordings (…) strongly suggests that Trump was grazed by the first of the eight bullets fired.” The attacker, a 20-year-old man, was shot dead shortly afterwards by Secret Service agents.
