When your carpets start to look dull, faded and stained, you don’t have to break the bank with expensive replacements. Instead of replacing your carpets, give them life again with our simple guide!
Use a damp cloth and iron
If the pile of your carpet has become worn down after years of use, try renewing it with a damp cloth and a steam iron. Start by dampening a microfiber cloth and placing it on the affected area of the carpet, then place a hot iron on top of the cloth for a few seconds. TThis step will cause the fibers to lift again.

There are a few caveats to using this technique, including never letting the iron touch the carpet directly. Even if the contact lasts only a few seconds, it can leave burn marks.

Shaving cream
Another way to get a cleaner carpet is to use shaving cream. Apply a layer of shaving cream to the area you want to clean and leave on for 15 minutes. Once the cream has dissolved into the carpet, use a damp sponge to wipe the area and collect any remaining shaving cream. Repeat this step until there is no residue left on the carpet. Then use a dry cloth to remove the water from the carpet and leave it to dry.
Ice cubes and a stiff brush will work wonders
Even great-looking carpet gets worn out when the homeowner moves tables, chairs, or couches to new locations, leaving behind unsightly dents. Dealing with these dents is simple: Take an ice cube from the freezer and place it on the dent.
Let it melt naturally or use a hair dryer to speed up the process, but be careful not to use high heat so as not to damage the carpet. Once the ice has melted and the dent is fully saturated, use a stiff brush to gently scrub the bristles up and back into place.
