An 18-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in the French department of Gironde accused of planning a terrorist attack just three days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.
Security forces have taken the suspect into police custody, accused of “terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing one or more crimes of personal injury”according to the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’.
The young man, described as radicalized, was detected by the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) due to several messages published on social networks in which he expressed his desire to commit an attack. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the matter.
Paris will be protected by a force of 45,000 for the Olympic Games, which will take place from Wednesday until August 11although the opening ceremony will be this Friday on the River Seine, an event that will have a “special” security plan.
