Kremlin says Russia’s priority is war, not US election

The Kremlin said today, in connection with the decision of the US president, Joe Bidento withdraw his candidacy for re-election, that the priority for Russia is the victory of the military campaign in Ukrainenot the US presidential election.

“We need to be patient and closely monitor what will happen next. Our priority is to achieve the goals of the special military operation,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Telegram channel Shot.

Peskov added that “there are still four months until the elections (in the US), which is a long period of time in which many things can change.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said in recent months that Russia would benefit more from Biden’s victory than from former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump, which he took as a “compliment.”

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for an investigation into a “conspiracy” between the US press and political circles to conceal the real situation regarding Biden’s “mental state.”

For his part, the president of the Duma, or chamber of deputies, Viacheslav Volodin, accused Biden from Cuba of creating problems “around the world and in his own country.”

“When he saw that he was not going to be elected, he fled without waiting for the elections,” he told the Russian press.

He also urged Biden to take responsibility for unleashing the war in Ukraine, destroying the economies of European countries and imposing sanctions against Russia and other states.

As for the impact of today’s announcement on the election result, Senate Vice President Konstantin Kosachev believes that with Biden’s withdrawal, Trump’s chances of victory will increase.

In a recent telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Republican candidate stressed his intention to immediately end the race if he returns to the White House.
