The MEP of the Romanian far right Diana Sosoaca has been expelled during the debate in the plenary session of the European Parliament to decide on the Reappointment of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyenafter interrupting the interventions several times with shouts.

This was decided by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, at a time when the SOS Romania MEP tried to interrupt, with proclamations and gestures from her seat, without a microphone, the intervention of another MEP, the leader of the European Liberals, ValĂ©rie Hayer, who at that time was giving her reply to Von der Leyen’s opening speech.

The far-right politician interrupted the session by shouting from her seat with a muzzle on, a religious image and a large garbage bag while accused Commission President Ursula von der Leyen of “killing people”.

Metsola explained that this was at least the third time that she had displayed this behaviour and that she had therefore requested that Sosoaca be expelled immediately.

“How many people are needed to escort her out? I think she has said enough,” the President of the European Parliament concluded when she saw that the Romanian politician was resisting leaving the room, shouting “freedom of expression”, while the institution’s staff tried to escort her out.

The rules of the European Parliament provide that an MEP can be expelled if he or she repeatedly fails to comply with the standards of conduct set out in the rules. If the breach continues after several calls to order, “the MEP may be denied the right to speak and the President may exclude him or her from the Chamber for the remainder of the session.”

The incident lasted only a few minutes. and the rest of the debate was able to develop normally. Later, when Von der Leyen took the floor again, she recalled the importance of respect for the rule of law and stressed that this respect “can only be built together, overcoming divisions.” “That’s how it is, not by shouting or disrespecting, but by voting“that can be achieved,” he stressed.
