Honda stressed that for longer trips, the vehicle can be refueled quickly, like a gasoline vehicle, to refill the hydrogen tank, which produces no emissions other than water.
The hydrogen fuel cell module generates 92.2 kW and the vehicle’s electric motor generates 174 horsepower. The battery has a capacity of 17.7 kWh.
The vehicle, which is produced at Honda’s Marysville, Ohio, assembly plant, is the first from the Japanese manufacturer to use the new second generation of the Fuel Cell Module (FCM) that it has developed jointly with General Motors (GM).
The new FCM is two-thirds cheaper than the first generation fuel cell module thanks to the adoption of new electrode materials and improved productivity, among other measures.
The 2025 CR-V FCEV’s equipment includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Additionally, the vehicle can function as an electricity generator and is equipped with a 110-volt outlet with up to 1,500 watts of power that can power small appliances, portable air conditioners, tools and camping equipment.
