The Republican candidate and former president of USA, Donald Trump (2017-2021) was evacuated from the rally he was holding on Saturday afternoon in Butler, Pennsylvania, after shots were heard at the scene and he was apparently injured.
According to EFE, shots could be heard from the scene, but it is not clear whether they were from the security services or the alleged attacker.
According to US media, two people were killed, including the alleged attacker.
Trump injured in attack
The Republican candidate was carried off the stage on his own two feet, after having been there for only 10 minutes, with traces of blood on his right ear and could be injured, according to what EFE was able to confirm from the scene.
Trump He walked off the stage with his fist raised, surrounded by Secret Service personnel, but the images suggest he was injured.
The former president, who a spokesman said was “safe” and “fine,” was evacuated after the sound of gunshots was heard and authorities have confirmed that the site has been declared a “crime scene” and an ambulance assisted in the evacuation.
“Former President Trump thanks security and first responders for their swift response to this despicable act. He is doing well and is being treated at a local medical facility,” spokesman Steve Cheung said in a statement.
Authorities call for calm
Authorities have urged calm among the thousands of people attending the rally, which is taking place just before the start of the Republican convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A strong police, Secret Service and helicopter presence surrounds the area and is protecting the former president.
Trump put his hand to his ear after the sound of three alleged gunshots, which were followed by several more sounds amid screams from the crowd.
Trump crouched down as the sound of possible gunshots rang out, his face covered in blood.
As Trump was evacuated by the secret services, supposedly to Pittsburgh, the nearest city, the Republican candidate’s supporters began to shout “USA, USA,” while the authorities ordered the attendees over the loudspeaker to stay where they were.
Although most of the attendees obeyed the orders, a group of about thirty angry people headed towards the place where the journalists were to blame them for what had happened, according to EFE.
These angry men, all middle-aged, berated the journalists, calling them “leftists” and shouting “Fuck you” and “It’s your fault,” and tempers were so high that the police had to intervene between them and the reporters, given the obvious risk of attack.
Biden has already been informed
For his part, the president Joe Biden was informed of the shooting.
“The President received an initial briefing regarding the incident at former President Trump’s rally,” the White House explained.
