Vladana Augstenowa works as a sexual assistant for disabled people. In countries such as Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany, this profession is nothing new. In the Czech Republic it was regulated by law in 2015and the state financially supports the activities of organizations such as the Freya Foundation, which deal with the training of such people.
For many, the topic of sexuality of disabled people is still taboo. As Wojciechowska points out in her Instagram post, they need intimate closeness to the same extent as able-bodied people. Augstenowa as an assistant, she breaks barriers and “tries to heal with touch.” She has experienced many traumatic experiences in the past, and today she wants to help others. For years, she has been treating sexuality with touch. Society is not familiar with this topic
in 2021 she gave an interview to TVN24, in which she revealed the background of her work. In a conversation with Ada Wiśniewska, she explained that the topic of sexuality of disabled people is still not an everyday thing for us, we have not become accustomed to it. – Once, a seventeen-year-old autistic boy came to me. It was after he started touching himself in intimate places on the street one day. He didn’t know what was happening to him. He didn’t understand it. And at the same time, he couldn’t stop. It is precisely such people that I try to help – she explained what her work really looks like.
Augstenova admits that this is not an isolated case. On her way, she also met a woman whom she helped overcome certain barriers. – Another time, I met a woman who was in a wheelchair. She was 39 years old and had never even touched her private parts. So, slowly, gently, I touched her with her motionless hands. Thanks to me, for the first time in her life, she could touch her vagina. Wow, she was so radiant – she recalls.
