He Hurricane Beryl has already touched ground in USA. He did it in Matagorda, a small town south of Texasat 4 a.m. this Monday, after crossing Mexico and the Caribbean, according to the National Meteorological Service.
“Strong winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge are occurring “that are life-threatening in several areas of Texas,” the US National Hurricane Center said a few hours before the storm reached the south of the country.
The maximum sustained winds have been 128 kilometers per hour and is moving northwest at a speed of 16 km/h, so the hurricane warning remains active along the entire coast of Texas.
Authorities have warned residents to be prepared for possible flooding in central and northern Texas and Arkansas, where the hurricane is expected to head in the final hours of Monday. These floods could reach 213 centimeters.
Nevertheless, Beryl is expected to weaken gradually as it moves inland. It is expected to become a tropical storm on Monday and become a tropical depression on Tuesday.
Beryl is the first hurricane of the 2024 athletic season and has been the fastest to reach category 5 since 1966. During his time in the Caribbean he left at least eleven dead.
