Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law of the former president and Republican candidate for the White House, now wants to encourage early voting and by mail donald trump discredited in the last elections for facilitating an alleged fraud that was never proven. Now, all options are valid to win in November, but the seed of suspicion persists among its fans.
With the unmistakable red cap “MAGA” of Donald Trump in her head, Brittney Moxley is clear. On November 5, she will go in person to the electoral college to vote for the former president of the United States and Republican candidate because she believes that in-person voting is the only way to avoid fraud.
The fear of this neighbor of Detroit, in the state of Michigan, a key electoral battleground to define the next tenant of the White House, is the result of years of discredit spread by Trump himself against the electoral system.
The former president has repeatedly denounced without evidence that voting by mail is manipulable and that Democrats used it in 2020 to give victory to Joe Biden. But something is changing in recent weeks.
Republicans change their position
The Republican Party is beginning to encourage its followers to use all available systems to vote next November, including early voting, to ensure the victory of the New York magnate against Biden.
The person in charge of commanding this new strategy at the head of the party is Lara Trump, the new strong weight of the Republican Party and proof that the Trump family controls the levers of the conservative movement well.
“We want you to vote. We will make sure that vote is counted, but vote in advance, by mail or however necessary.”The leader said over the weekend at a far-right forum held in Detroit, in the same convention center where the county’s votes were counted four years ago and a group of Trumpists protested denouncing false electoral fraud.
Although Trump remains publicly distrustful of voting by mail, he recently signaled his change of position by saying on his Truth social network that “Both early voting and voting on election day are good options.”
The Democratic and Republican Parties had similar positions on early voting until months before the 2020 elections, when a large increase in voting by mail was expected due to the covid-19 pandemic, Trump began to discredit this system.
His advisors have been convincing Trump that early voting should be promoted to avoid concentrating it all on election day and risking that an unforeseen event, such as bad weather or long lines, will discourage his voters in the decisive states.
In Michigan there is a lot of attention because Trump won the then Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, in 2016 by only 10,000 votes, but in 2020 he lost against Biden by 154,000.
What do your voters say?
The Republican Party’s new message seems to resonate with some Trump supporters, like Sandy Jarvis, a retiree from North Carolina who traveled to Detroit to see the former president at a rally.
“We will play the Democrats’ game. “We will support early voting, but when we win, I think we have to go back to voting in person, with paper and without electronic machines,” account to EFE.
The party’s new position does not mean that Republicans put to rest the specter of electoral fraud. Lara Trump herself has also just presented a campaign in Michigan to recruit 100,000 election observers who will be in charge of “protect votes” in decisive states.
According to Democrats, it is nothing more than a strategy to intimidate election officials and voters at polling stations. Dwayne Swingle, a Trump fan who follows him everywhere dressed as Uncle Sam, tells EFE that the Republican “tells the truth” when he denounces electoral fraud.
Damont Bellingeer, who goes to an African-American church in Detroit where this weekend Trump asked for the black vote, does not see it the same: “The system works. What we have to do as Republicans is go out and vote for Trump. “The votes are going to be counted and they will be counted correctly,” judgment.
