Former UFC fighter Sonnen said Conor McGregor is in rehab
Former contender for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) belt, Chael Sonnen, said that Conor McGregor is in rehab. He spoke about this on ESPN’s Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast.
“McGregor is not injured. He is in a rehabilitation center for substance abuse, including alcohol,” Sonnen said.
On June 14, it became known that the fight between McGregor and American Michael Chandler, scheduled for June 30, was officially canceled. The Irishman had his last fight in the UFC in the summer of 2021, when he lost to another American, Dustin Poirier, by technical knockout after a broken leg.
The Irishman later commented on the cancellation of the fight. “It’s very difficult to give up on your planned return to the UFC. I got injured and it took me longer to recover than I had,” McGregor said. He added that the decision was difficult for him and was made after consultation with doctors, the UFC and the team.
