Javier Milei’s government is seduced by the idea of set up a prison in Argentina in the purest Nayib Bukele style. Her Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, has gone to El Salvador to see first-hand how one of these centers works and it seems that she has been delighted. The Salvadoran president has developed a savage police and prison system, overcrowding prisoners and withdrawing any of their rights.
Prisons are full, with prisoners piled up in their cells, where they barely have the right to go to the bathroom. This is Milei’s new objective to replicate the Bukele system since, in the words of Bullrich, “El Salvador was the most violent country and became a country where families can walk down the street and live in peace.” In pursuit of this goal she has sent her minister on the matter to the country where has visited the largest prison in Latin America. There she has been just a few meters from the most dangerous prisoners.
A true hell on the land that can house up to 40,000 gang members and that Bullrich likes. “We want to follow the model that you are carrying out,” Bullrich began, addressing the Salvadoran authorities. Specifically, they positively value “having reduced crime as they did.”
The president of the country, Javier Milei, He has not hidden his obsession with security either. And since he arrived at the Casa Rosada, he has opted for a strong hand: “With these funds we will build maximum security prisons far from the city,” he said during a speech. All to end drug trafficking, fight crime and reduce violence, which according to him, promotes socialism.
