China reports its highest number of coronavirus cases in four months

China reported 140 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, the highest number in four months, as authorities struggled to contain the outbreak in several areas, including the city of Xi’an, where millions of people are confined.

China has reported 100,871 symptomatic cases and fewer than 5,000 deaths since the virus was detected in the city of Wuhan in late 2019.
