Moment of alliances in France after the results of the European elections and the decision to Emmanuel Macron of advance legislative elections. The French left has decided to unite for those June 30 elections, something that has made the Republican Party make a historic decision, breaking the sanitary cordon with the extreme right and forming an unprecedented alliance with Marine Le Pen.

The leader of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, defended that it was an alliance that allowed them to “continue to be themselves” and, in turn, “avoid the danger of France Insoumise“I think the country has never been so in need of the right, it expects acts from the right,” he confessed.

The response in the streets has not been long in coming and the first riots in Paris, with riot police running behind some protesters. Protests with which the left aims to confront the rise of the extreme right after the result of the European elections.

The French left has announced that they will unite forces to be an alternative “to the Macronist project” and to the “racists“, they say, from the extreme right. “We will present a breakup program for the first 100 days (…). Our objective is to respond to democratic, ecological, social and peace emergencies.” This coalition is made up of France Insoumise of Melenchon, socialists, greens and communists as well as other social and union movements.

The first Minister, Gabriel Attalchosen by Macron, has already described the coalition as “disgusting“, while Le Pen’s party, through which he will be its candidate, Jordan Bardelláannounced early contacts with the Republican Party.

This presents an unprecedented scenario in France, which will be put to the test at the polls on June 30th.
