The electric Brazilian Eletrobrasthe largest in Latin America, announced this Monday the sale of a set of eight thermoelectric plants to Âmbar Energia for 4.7 billion reais (about US$ 883 million or 820 million euros).
The operation includes an ‘earn-out’ compensation (buyer’s premium) of 1.2 billion reais (about US$ 210 million), according to a statement sent to the market.
The plants, fueled by natural gas and located in the states of Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro, have an installed capacity of 2,059 megawatts (MW).
Last year, these seven plants contributed a net turnover of 2.4 billion reais (US$420 million) to the company’s accounts.
This sale is in addition to another that Eletrobras carried out last year, in which it transferred control of its last coal-fired thermal plant to Âmbar.
Eletrobras is trying to get rid of the most polluting plants to meet the goal it set of completely neutralizing its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
