The group of voters called Se Acabó la Fiesta, which has run for the first time in elections, has managed to enter the European Parliament with three seats in these elections. European elections on June 9. This organization is led by Luis Pérez Fernández, a far-right agitator known on social networks as ‘Alvise’ and who is immersed in numerous judicial proceedings. His formation has gathered nearly 800,000 votes and 4.58% of the Spanish votes.
Who is Alvise and what is he known for?
The founder of Se Acabó la Fiesta is known above all for his activity on social networks under the name Alvise. The name of this Sevillian social media user usually appears often related to controversial publications and the spread of hoaxes about politicians, journalists and other public figures. Pérez has thousands of followers on social networks and calls himself content creator and as an analyst who “persecutes corrupt people and criminals.”
Although it is the first time that he appears leading a group, his relationship with politics is not new. Alvise was affiliate to the defunct Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD) and then, in 2017, he joined Citizens. With the orange party he managed to act as an advisor to Toni Cantó’s team and chief of staff of the parliamentary group in the Valencian Cortes until his dismissal in 2019.
Involved in judicial processes
His high activity on social networks as a spreader of hoaxes and misinformation has ended up causing many judicial problems and has even been convicted in some of the causes in which he has been involved.
You don’t have to go far to find important convictions against him. In March 2023, Pérez was found guilty of interference with the right to honor of the former mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena. The agitator had spread several tweets during the pandemic in which he accused Carmena of “having received a personal respirator from the company ‘VitalAire’ at home to avoid going to a public hospital and standing in line like the rest of Spaniards.” The judge sentenced Alvise to remove the tweets, publish the sentence and pay compensation of 5,000 euros to the former mayor.
In that same year, just a few months later, the Provincial Court of Madrid condemned Alvise to pay 10,000 euros to the journalist Ana Pastor for illegitimate interference of his Right to self-image. Alvise had published photographs of the journalist on his social networks that were part of his private sphere.
Alvise also had to admit in court that he had published false information about Salvador Illa during the pandemic. The agitator published the supposed results of a positive PCR for covid-19 belonging to the then Minister of Health. This information was false and Alvise admitted that he had not verified the veracity of his publication.
The far-right agitator was also convicted for publishing images on social networks of former minister José Luis Ábalos taken without his consent in his home and along with a message that insinuated that he had “mental health” problems. The conviction involved compensation of 60,000 euros to Ábalos, but in September 2023 the Provincial Court of Madrid decided to annul the sentence due to errors by the court of first instance in the notifications to the defendant, which forces a repeat of the trial.
Why is Alvise running for 9J?
After achieving great popularity by polarizing with his ultra and conspiratorial publications, the truth is that Luis Pérez does not intend to move to Brussels with the seat he has won, as he has mentioned in interviews. What he argues with his candidacy in Brussels is that he sought to “protect himself judicially” and have “a political privilege that citizens do not have,” since MEPs have parliamentary immunity and capacity.
Regarding its platform, its website is basically a link to its social media channels and it does not have an electoral program in which to consult its proposal. In his publications he has defended, among other speeches, anti-immigration proclamations. Furthermore, in his conspiratorial tone he questions the electoral count and promotes a parallel count with a bot whose method is not explained. If we base it on his social media posts.
