The National Council of Justice (CNJ) of Brazil opened disciplinary proceedings this Friday to investigate four judges for alleged irregularities in the conduct of the vast anti-corruption operation known as ‘Lava Jato‘.
Among the judges investigated by the disciplinary body, is Gabriela Hardtwho signed one of the corruption convictions against the current Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvaa decision that was later annulled by the Supreme Court due to flaws in the process.
According to the inspector general of CNJLuís Felipe Salomão, there is “clues” that Hardt diverted part of the compensation paid by companies investigated for corruption to a private foundation of those responsible for the operation ‘Lava Jato’.
Hardt and the other three judges had already been suspended from their duties in April by decision of Salomão, but this measure was reversed in the plenary session of the body.
The operation ‘Lava Jato’ investigated a money laundering scheme that sent dozens of ministers, governors and legislators to prison between 2014 and 2021, and caused an earthquake in the brazilian politics.
