The Minister of Defense of Israel, Yoav Gallant, assured this Sunday in a meeting with troops deployed in the Gaza Strip that Israel is “evaluating an alternative government to Hamas” in the Palestinian enclave and that he will not allow the Islamists to remain at the forefront after the war.
“We will isolate areas (in Gaza), expel Hamas members from these areas and We will bring other forces that allow the formation of an alternative government“Gallant assured without giving more details, but referring to said leadership as an “alternative that threatens” the Islamist organization.
Furthermore, Gallant assured that the land and air incursion in Rafah, south of the enclave, has served to destroy the “roads” that connect Gaza with Egypt, used for arms smuggling, which will help prevent Hamas from recovering. The Defense Minister insisted that the current offensive in Gaza, together with the creation of said alternative government, would ensure two of Israel’s objectives in the war: eliminating Hamas as the ruling and military authority in the Strip and the return of the 121 hostages who remain in the Palestinian territory.
“We will not accept Hamas rule in Gaza at any stage of any process aimed at ending the war“Gallant stated, alluding to the ongoing negotiations mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
An alternative from Israel that agrees with the message of Netanyahu, who assured through a statement from his office that his conditions for ending the war will not change: the prior destruction of the military and government capabilities of Hamas, the release of the hostages and ensure that Gaza no longer represents a “threat” to Israel.
