Eurostat has published data on the length of the working week in individual countries in 2023. The actual weekly working time of people aged 20-64 in their main job in the EU was on average 36.1 hours. In some countries weekly working hours were above average, in others they were lower. How did Poland fare in this ranking?

The longest working weeks were recorded in Greece (39.8 hours), Romania (39.5 hours), Poland (39.3 hours) and Bulgaria (39 hours). In turn, the shortest working week was recorded in the Netherlands (32.2 hours), Austria (33.6 hours) and Germany (34 hours). The European Statistical Office also presented the situation in countries that do not belong to the European Union. For example, in Turkey the working week lasted as much as 44.2 hours, in Serbia it was 41.7 hours, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina – 41.4 hours.
Eurostat also showed the length of the working week in individual areas of the economy. The worst in this respect was in agriculture, forestry and fishing (41.5 hours of actual working time), mining and quarrying (39.1 hours) and construction (38.9 hours). However, the shortest working weeks were recorded in the activities of households as employers (26.7 hours), education (31.9 hours) and art, entertainment and recreation (33 hours).
Unemployment rate in the EU. Eurostat released the latest data
the unemployment rate in the euro zone in the first quarter of 2024 was 6.4%. This is a decrease of 0.1 percentage point. compared to March 2024 and April 2023. However, unemployment in the European Union amounted to 6%. in April 2024 (the same as in March 2024 and April 2023). Eurostat estimates that 13.149 million people in the EU were unemployed in April, including 10.998 million in the euro area.
