The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has met with the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee on Gaza after Spain’s recognition of the Palestinian State. The socialist leader has received them personally with one objective: end violence in Gaza.

Who are the ministers who have traveled to Spain? This group was created in November, after the joint summit of the Arab League and the OIC held in Riyadhwith the aim of achieving a ceasefire, the sending of humanitarian aid and the establishment of an action plan for the materialization of the two-state solution.

It is made up of the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Authority Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria and the Secretaries General of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

This Wednesday several members of that Committee traveled to Spain. Specifically, the leaders of the Authority Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey and the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They have met with Pedro Sánchez and the Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.

It was the President of the Government who explained the reasons why Spain has recognized Palestine as a state. He has done it with a clear message: the need for an imminent ceasefire. Everyone has applauded the government’s decision and asks that more states join this recognition.

Furthermore, the president has also expressed satisfaction with the trip of said ministers to Spanish territory. in order to make visible Spain’s verbal commitment and willingness to negotiate with the Arab countries in their efforts to end the violence and realize the States solution.

All participants in the meeting thanked President Sánchez for the step they have taken, calling it historic and brave. This represents the recognition of the State of Palestine at this time, and they have stressed that it is not just a symbolic step, but one that keeps the idea of ​​two States alive. In this sense, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Mustafa, has highlighted that Spain’s decision together with those of Ireland and Norway lays the foundations for a new beginning for the region.

According to La Moncloa, all the parties that participated in this Wednesday’s meeting have agreed on the need to continue working together, leaving aside nationality or whether they are Arabs or Europeans. The objective is to try to move towards a single viable path: peace.
