Day by day: this week’s economic agenda in America

This week the data from the first review of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States for the first quarter and employment data in Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Colombia corresponding to April will be published.

These are the keys that will mark the week in America:

Monday 27

The National Institute of Statistics of Mexico releases the unemployment rate for the first quarter of 2024, after reporting an index of 2.7% in the last period of 2023.

Tuesday 28

The Ministry of Labor discloses the number of formal jobs generated by Brazil in April.

The OECD publishes quarterly international trade data for G20 members.

A high-level academic forum is being held in Honduras on the Association Agreement between Central America and the European Union (EU), which came into force on May 1.

Wednesday 29

The United States Federal Reserve (Fed) publishes the Beige Book on economic outlook.

The Bank of Mexico releases its ‘Quarterly Report, January-March 2024’ with new forecasts for gross domestic product and inflation.

The Government discloses the average unemployment rate in Brazil in the quarter ended in April.

Also in Chile, the unemployment rate for April is published.

Thursday 30

Data on housing prices for March and homes pending sale for April are published in the United States.

The American supermarket chain Costco releases its results for the third quarter of 2024 and accumulated results.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis reports data from the first review of the United States gross domestic product for the first quarter of 2024.

The National Institute of Statistics of Mexico releases the unemployment rate for April.

Friday the 31st

The Bureau of Economic Statistics (BEA) publishes the personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index, a key data point for the US Federal Reserve (Fed).

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) reports data on the Colombian labor market in April.

The Central Bank discloses the result of Brazil’s public accounts and the relationship between debt and gross domestic product in April.

In Chile, the manufacturing and copper production indicator for April is published.

Saturday 1

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) publishes the report on the Variation of the Price Indicators of the Peruvian Economy (inflation) in May 2024. It also publishes the report on the Conjunctural Advancement of the Economic Activity of Peru until April 2024.

The Panama Canal, the only freshwater canal in the world and through which around 3% of world trade passes, brings daily ship transits to 32, which was forced to restrict last year due to the severe drought.
