The international Court of Justice (ICJ) this Friday ordered Israel to immediately stop its offensive on the city of Rafahin the south of the Gaza Strip, where the humanitarian situation is now “disastrous.”
In his opinion, issued this Friday, the president of the court, Nauaf Salam, has declared that Israel has failed to convince the court of the measures it claims to have adopted to improve the security of civilians in the Gaza Strip and, in particular , the hundreds of thousands displaced in the last two weeks by the beginning of their latest operation in the city.
So, “Israel must immediately suspend its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah governorate that could inflict on the Palestinian population living conditions that could lead to their physical destruction, whether total or partial.
Besides, Court urges Israel to take “effective measures” to guarantee “unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip” for “any commission of inquiry, fact-finding mission or investigative body mandated by the competent UN bodies to investigate allegations of genocide.”
